#21 Wistman's wood, Dartmoor
February, 2023
The name "Wistman's Wood" itself carries an air of mystery, possibly derived from the dialect word "wisht," meaning "eerie" or "haunted." Local folklore speaks of the "Wisht Hounds," spectral canines said to roam the woods, their haunting cries echoing through the night. These hounds are often associated with the Wild Hunt, a mythical procession of spectral riders led by a ghostly huntsman, said to traverse the moors under the cover of darkness.
