#98 Dinorwig Quarry, Eryri
May, 2024
Dinorwig Quarry, once a giant among slate quarries, boasts a rich history dating back to the 1780s. It rose to become the world's second-largest slate producer in the 19th century, employing thousands of workers and supplying slate across the globe. The quarry's success is tied to the development of a nearby port and a dedicated railway system. However, after nearly 200 years of operation, Dinorwig finally closed its doors in 1969, leaving behind a legacy of a community shaped by slate mining. A bright sunny hazy day, terrible for photography, but incredibly fun to explore and create some images.
