Devil's Kitchen, Glyder Fawr, Y-Garn hike and camp
The hike from Cwm Idwal up Devil's Kitchen and onto Glyder Fawr is a classic route in Snowdonia National Park, Wales. It's a challenging but rewarding hike that offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lakes. The hike starts at Ogwen Cottage car park on the A5 road. From there, you'll follow a path around Llyn Idwal, a beautiful lake nestled in the mountains. The path then climbs steeply up to Devil's Kitchen, a large chasm between Glyder Fawr and Y Garn. The name comes from the steam that sometimes rises from the chasm, which was said to be the devil at work in his kitchen. The ascent of Devil's Kitchen is the most challenging part of the hike. The path is steep and rocky, and there are some sections that require scrambling. However, the views from the top are worth the effort. Once you've reached the top of Devil's Kitchen, you'll continue on to Llyn y Cwn, a smaller lake. From there, the path climbs up to the summit of Glyder Fawr, the highest peak in the Glyderau mountain range. The views from the summit of Glyder Fawr are incredible. On a clear day, you can see Snowdon, the Ogwen Valley, and all the way to the coast.
